Over the last 4 years microinverters have proven themselves as an extremely flexible workhorse for grid connected solar applications. Shading problems, installation time, lack of wall space, and the need for robust monitoring are all issues that mircroinverters overcome by nature. With microinverters each solar module gets its own inverter to turn the modules DC power into grid synchronous AC. There are a number of microinverter manufactures coming on line. The only one we’ve used at Hire Electric is Enphase. On of the key benefits of the Enphase offering is their Enlighten, web based monitoring. With Enlighten you can see how each solar module in the array is performing: Instantaneous, daily and historical. If one solar module is underperforming the owner and installer both get an email that there may be an issue. You can see how the solar array at Hire’s shop is doing here. With the introduction of their new M215 inverter, Enphase has also announced a full 25 year warranty (25 years!!!!!!) and free lifetime Enlighten monitoring. I just hope these guys can afford to stay in business with all this goodness.
