Gorge Owned (GO!) and the Energy Trust of Oregon present the 12th annual Gorge Green Home Tour on Saturday, October 5, 2013 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. This year, the tour features about a dozen homes in Hood River and Mosier and will start and end at Hood River Waterfront Park.
The bicycle-friendly self-guided tour showcases many cutting-edge homes that reduce energy and water use, incorporate solar photovoltaics and other renewables, and utilize green building materials.
The event will kick off on Friday, October 4, 2013 with the Gorge Green Home Expo at Springhouse Cellar in Hood River from 5 p.m to 8 p.m. The expo will feature green building products and service providers, provide an opportunity for residents to connect with green building professionals, and create an opportunity to learn about a range of topics related to sustainable design, building and living.
About 5 years ago we installed solar on a Net Zero home in The Dalles, OR. Recently the homeowners were able to retire to Milton Freewater, OR. They wanted solar on their new home. The roof was not optimal but the incentives were excellent with Energy Trust of Oregon, Oregon Residential Energy Tax Credit and the Federal tax credit all in full swing. The main surprise for these homeowners is how much less this larger system cost them compared to the one they bought 5 years ago. “The price drop is astounding. I feel like I’m cheating!” The new system used 17 – SolarWorld 255 watt mono crystalline solar panels and Siemens micro inverters for a 4.3kW rated system.
